Fallout 76 is the first game in the franchise to be multiplayer. While it is Bethesda’s first time developing a multiplayer game but, the studio has left Fallout 76 open to hacks and hackers to do whatever they want.
According to reports, Fallout 76 has no file validation and the network traffic is unencrypted. Reddit user “teetharejustdone” has revealed a ton of details that has left Fallout 76 open to hacks. Not only that, this report shows that Bethesda either doesn’t care or didn’t have the talent to make the game secure.
Bethesda developed Fallout 76 using the Fallout 4 game engine. The game engine is designed for single-player experiences and modders have the tools to make changes to their liking.
The report reveals that Fallout 76 has not file validation on servers. Meaning, if anyone makes changes to the game files like making player characters bright to see them better, the server won’t check it and will let it pass.
Even if you walk through walls, the server won’t flag you or do anything. Just open the .esm file, edit it and walk through walls. Not only that, even the network traffic is just unencrypted plain text.
Meaning you can grief player in-game, have unlimited HP or be a God in Fallout 76, the server won’t do anything. Furthermore, you can also forge a packet with the disconnect command to disconnect other players.
This shows that Bethesda has not paid attention to making the game secure. Or there is a possibility that Bethesda doesn’t have the talent to make it secure.
This definitely leaves Fallout 76 open to hacks and let hackers do whatever they want. What is the point of making a multiplayer game when only the hackers will be able to play it?
However, there is a possibility that initially Fallout 76 was a co-op game. Somewhere down the line, Bethesda decided to make it multiplayer.
If things remain the same for the final release then hackers will be ruling the wasteland.
Speaking of the Fallout 76, the unlocked FPS is a built-in hack for the game. If you unlock the FPS in the game, the higher the FPS the higher your moving speed will be.
The reason behind the increased speed is physics tied to the FPS. Furthermore, this is a persistent bug from previous Fallout titles. It is acceptable for single-player games but, Fallout 76 is a multiplayer one.
Fallout 76 is an open-world action adventure game in development at Bethesda. The game rolls out on November 14, 2018, for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
