A lot of you are by now familiar with the sh*tstorm that was caused by the announcement of Diablo Immortal for mobile phones. The reveal was made at Blizzcon and I’ve honestly never seen a more uncomfortable crowd situation.
A spike in complaints rose then as to if Diablo Immortal actually replaced a presentation on Diablo 4. Which may still be in development supposedly. Blizzard, however, denies that they removed Diablo 4 trailer from Blizzcon. And that they never planned on showing it there in the first place.
An article piece from Kotaku mentioned Allen Adham, co-founder at Blizzard, who had confirmed a recorded video for a new Diablo game. The plan was never for Blizzcon however, and it also isn’t confirmed if that new game was even Diablo 4. Blizzard added in their statement regarding Blizzcon:
“First off we want to mention that we definitely hear our community. We generally don’t comment on rumors or speculation. But we can say that we didn’t pull any announcements from BlizzCon this year or have plans for other announcements. We do continue to have different teams working on multiple unannounced Diablo projects, and we look forward to announcing when the time is right.”
Blizzard added that Diablo 4 is indeed in development. But that the game isn’t anywhere close to being final or even concrete in any way. This is regarding both its game design and the overall concept itself. With these unsure factors, Blizzard didn’t want to show an incomplete piece at their convention, or so they say.
This could also be their method of damage control with how the negative wave of feedback hit them after Immortal. Seeing as how deleting Youtube comments hasn’t worked out very well.
Regarding the new Diablo game which hasn’t been shown yet, Blizzard had this to say:
“These are very exciting times—we currently have multiple teams working on different Diablo projects and we can’t wait to tell you all about them . . . when the time is right,” the company said. We know what many of you are hoping for and we can only say that ‘good things come to those who wait,’ but evil things often take longer.”
So hopefully they actually are working on Diablo 4 or anything really that caters to the hardcore gamer base. Since honestly, who’s idea was it to have the main event of a gaming panel be for the mobile gamer market?
