Nintendo Switch Sales Reach 22.86 Million, Outsells GameCube

Nintendo has officially announced that Nintendo Switch has sold 22.86 million units worldwide ending September 30. These number of sales were announced in the company’s latest financial results.

Nintendo managed to sell a total of 3.19 million Switch consoles in the last quarter. This makes a total of 5.07 million units for the financial year so far. By reaching 22.86 total sales, Switch has outsold Gamecube and also the Wii U. GameCube stands at 21.74 million total sales.

Nintendo has also sold a total of 24.17 million software for the three months ended September 30. Though, Nintendo is still far away from their own target which is said to be 20 million for the year ending March 31st, 2019. So Nintendo needs to double their sales with upcoming holiday quarter.

Nintendo also shared the total number of sales for their first party titles. Top ten best selling games are as follows.

  1. Super Mario Odyssey – 12.17 million sales
  2. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – 11.71 million sales
  3. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild – 10.28 million sales
  4. Splatoon 2 – 7.47 million sales
  5. 1-2 Switch – 2.64 million sales
  6. Mario Tennis Aces – 2.16 million sales
  7. ARMS – 2.10 million sales
  8. Kirby: Star Allies – 2.10 million sales
  9. Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze – 1.67 million sales
  10. Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – 1.53 million sales

Well if the rumors are true, we might see a massive rise in Switch sales if Nintendo releases a Switch upgrade in 2019. This upcoming version of Switch has been rumored for some time and it’s expected to come with a better display and a lower price tag. If the price is lower than the original then it’ll attract more gamers to buy it.

Interestingly, Huawei is now also competing with Switch. They recently introduced Mate 20 X by simply saying that it’s a better gaming machine than the Switch. Without a doubt, Mate 20 X packs some high-end hardware but it lacks behind Switch when it comes to games.

Nintendo Switch Online is now also available and it brings a variety of new features. It now allows us to save our game progress to the cloud. Nintendo Switch Online also brings different Classic games to the console and more.
