Black Ops 4 community was not pleased with the revelation that the game’s servers were running with 20 Hz tick rate. Following the backlash, Treyarch promised to do better. While the studio has been vague as to how things would improve but, it seems that they already have Black Ops 4 running at 60 Hz tick rate on PS4.
One Reddit user took some time to test out the server Tick rate for Black Ops 4 on PS4 and PC. Turns out PS4 version of Black Ops 4 is already running at 60 Hz tick rate.
However, the 60 Hz server tick rate is not for every PS4 server as there are still that are running at 20 Hz. You can see the results in the images below.
The PS4 version of Black Ops 4 is running at 60 Hz tick rate for team deathmatch. However, the Blackout server tick rate is still 20 Hz on the PS4.
On the other hand, the PC version server tick rate is 60 Hz. But, as you can see in the images below, in some games the tick rare takes some time to reach 60 Hz. Also, the Blackout mode on the PC version is still 20 Hz.
Treyarch hasn’t revealed the reason behind the 20 Hz server tick rate for Black Ops 4 Blackout mode. Fans, on the other hand, are demanding a clear roadmap from Treyarch for the changes the studio intends to make.
Speaking of server tick rate, DICE has revealed the tick rate for Battlefield 5. Interestingly, the game will feature 60 Hz for PC and 30 Hz for consoles.
Not only that, DICE has confirmed 120 Hz tick rate for the PC version of Battlefield 5. But, this 120 Hz refresh rate is exclusive to smaller game modes. Also, these smaller games modes will drop post-launch. This means the 120 Hz servers will become available at a later date.
Furthermore, Battlefield 5 features a revamped bullet penetration system. The system allows bullets to go through “thin materials and deal reduced damage to opponents”.
According to DICE, the penetration and the damage depends on the weapon. Sidearms penetrate through “doors and thin assets like cloth, light vegetation, and glass”. But, SMG and shotguns have higher “better penetration values” and damage.
Black Ops 4 is a first-person multiplayer shooter developed by Treyarch. The game is available for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
