The massive failure of Battleborne which is a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), doesn’t stop Gearbox from working on new IPs. Gearbox Software is now working on a new franchise, never before seen IP.
This is confirmed from a Tweet by John Vignocchi who previously worked at Disney Interactive and before Disney, he worked at Midway on games such as NBA Ballers. Now he will be putting his Disney and Midway experience to good use as he had landed at Gearbox and is working as an executive producer.
In his recent Tweet he reveals:
Big news! Excited to announce I am joining the merry band of misfits at Gearbox Publishing. I’ll be taking the reins as Executive Producer on a new tent-pole franchise for the company.
However, John Vignocchi has not yet revealed exactly what they are working on, but it is suspected that it is Borderlands 3, in another Tweet, he said:
We are working on something, which we hope it will surprise and delight players of all ages; whether you are six or sixty … And I cannot wait to share more!
Gearbox software is working on a VR version of Borderlands 2, which in December will appear for PlayStation VR. The Gearbox Publishing team recently launched We Happy Few in August. They are specialized in the console release for games like Hello Neighbor, The Banner Saga, and Subnautica.
It should be noted that the new franchise is currently under Gearbox publishing. With this news is out now we are curious what Borderlands creator are working on and how they will present it, the only thing we can do is wait and watch until they will update us about this new franchise.
