AMD Ryzen CPU Sales Grew 70% In Q3 2018

Numbers for Q3 2018 are out and according to the financials AMD Ryzen CPU sales grew by 70% in Q3 2018. AMD has been back in the game for about 2 years now. Ever since AMD Ryzen CPUs came out it has been giving Intel a tough time and it gaining market share rapidly.

With rapid AMD Ryzen CPU sales, the company closed the quarter with an increased profit of 12%. Compared to the same quarter in 2017. This accounted for 938 million dollars. This is a respectable number. Keeping in mind that major break that AMD took and how long it has been since it was back in the CPU and GPU space.

Although the profits were lower than that of the previous quarter it is still very impressive. AMD CEO Lisa Su commented on the financial performance of the company. The following is what she had to say in this regard:

We achieved our fifth consecutive quarter of revenue and net revenue growth was driven largely by the accelerated adoption of our Ryzen products, EPYC and data centers.

Talking about the GPU side of things, sales were lower than before. This is due to the end of the mining boom. AMD GPUs performed better in cryptocurrency mining and that is why they sold like hot cakes. Now that the mining boom is over, sales are not as high as they once used to be. This caused the share price of the company to fall by 9%. Luckily AMD Ryzen CPU sales should be able to cover all that up.

One of the fun facts is that more than 5 million AMD Ryzen CPUs have been sold to date. Which is a very impressive figure. AMD CEO Lisa Su further went on to mention the following:

Sales of consumer processors and servers increased significantly, although graphic card sales were lower this quarter. Looking forward, we believe that we are well positioned to obtain higher profits and market share as we continue to make significant progress towards our long-term financial goals.
