This really shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that’s familiar with both gaming as well as Spidey himself. The license alone was enough to attract the population. But in the form of a properly developed AAA title? It’s obvious that Spiderman PS4 sales were going to break records.
According to their latest monthly report, Spiderman PS4 dominates the video game market charts, not only as a solo purchase but also massively bumped up PS4 sales with gamers purchasing the console to play.
Spiderman PS4 sales broke records in the US while topping charts in the UK and Japan as well. The critical acclaim Spiderman PS4 received before it’s release also added to the hype-train coming up on its release. Demo previews and impressions helped boost consumer confidence.
Spiderman’s top spot in the market was followed up by games like NBA2K19, Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and even Destiny 2, who’s latest Forsaken add-on gave it a boost in sales and concurrent player base.
NPD’s Mat Piscatella also had this to say regarding the massive success of Spiderman PS4.
(Marvel’s Spider-Man) achieved the highest launch month dollar sales for any PlayStation exclusive in history, and is the seventh largest launch ever achieved by any game on any PlayStation platform.
Setting aside its comparison with other titles, Spiderman actually had a 37% advantage in sales over previously released Spiderman games under Activision’s banner. This includes games like Shattered dimensions, Web of shadows as well as other adaptations of the movies.
Besides however the support of the license itself, Marvel’s Spider-Man delivered on a proper, engaging, compelling story-driven experience. Reminding us several times within game as to why Spidey was, is and always will be our favorite superhero. At least that’s what the game accomplished for me
