There’s a lot going on at Electronic Arts this year and we recently got to know that EA Motive Founder Jade Raymond has left the studio. Without her, the studio will still operate but under the lead of Samantha Ryan who has worked at multiple EA studios.
Samantha Ryan has worked for EA mobile, BioWare, Maxis, North American operations and will now take the lead of EA motive. It’s indeed a very strange time for the founder and head of the EA studio to leave.
We are not really sure why it actually happened but it has something to do with the recent restructuring taking place at EA in recent years. This could also be the reason of EA’s focus on live service games.
This restructuring at Electronic Arts began back in April when we saw Patrick Sunderland being shifted to the role of Cheif Design officer, Lauren Miele became Chief studios officer and Blake Jorgensen was made Chief operating and financial officer.
EA Studios is focused on bringing more creative new games and content to players. Laura Miele and her team have taken several steps internally to better support our game makers in this pursuit, such as expanding Samantha Ryan’s portfolio to lead additional studios, including Motive
Interestingly, EA issued a statement regarding the sudden departure of Jade Raymond. They indicated Laura appointed Samantha to lead additional studios like Motive. Now that’s when they also write that with this change, Jade Raymond left Electronic Arts.
With this change, Jade Raymond has decided to leave Electronic Arts. In her time with us, Jade helped to build great teams, and our projects underway at Motive and other studios continue unchanged. We’re appreciative of all of her efforts, and we wish Jade all the best as she moves on to her next adventure. We are driving greater creativity into everything we do across EA Studios, and we’ll look forward to sharing more in the months to come.
This suggests that Jade didn’t like the idea of Laura appointing Samantha to overlook the Motive studios. Maybe she didn’t want that to happen or she wasn’t happy with the hierarchy system going on at EA. It is to be noted that Samantha is an expert on mobile and live service games.
Electronic Arts has lost a very talented person from their team. Jade Raymond previously worked on games like Assassin’s Creed, Assassin’s Creed 2, Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
