For the past few weeks, it was rumored that Red Dead Redemption 2 comes out on two discs. While those rumors were confirmed by a leaked box from China, we never had a look inside the box itself. Well, we are here to change that today. We have the first in-box images of the two Red Dead Redemption 2 discs.
Dutch and his gang are sitting proudly on the back of this steel book edition we see and from the looks of it, it seems Arthur and John Marston have seen better days.
As you can see, the box is capable of housing two discs so if there were any doubts up until this point, here we have it right in front of us.
Red Dead Redemption 2 requires two discs due to its massive file size on PS4 and Xbox One. On PS4, it is over 90+GB uncompressed while the file size goes to 149GB after the installation process. On Xbox One, the overall file size is 107GB. The difference in file size is due to PS4 using higher resolution textures compared to the Xbox One.
Red Dead’s file size speaks volumes about what we can expect from the next-gen console. File sizes are expected to grow as we head into the next-generation of gaming machines. But the good news is that Sony is already preparing for PS5 and Xbox Scarlett. The company is releasing its new 128GB Blu-Ray XL next month. Each layer of this new disc can hold up to 32GB of data, perfect for next-generation gaming consoles.
PS5 and Xbox Scarlett are expected to release sometime in the next two years. E3 2019 reveal is looking likely at this point.
Red Dead Redemption 2 is releasing on October 26 for PS4 and Xbox One.
