Nvidia RTX Effects Are Significantly Taxing Even On The Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti

Nvidia RTX effects are cool and they add a lot of detail to the game but because we have no games that support these features we are not sure about the performance of the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti, or any other Nvidia RTX graphics card. We have a demo result that gives us an idea of the kind of impact Nvidia RTX Effects will have on performance.

Remedy’s Northlight Engine shows the kind of hit the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti takes when RTX effects are turned on. Talking about the details, while the scene looked better, contact shadows cost 2.3 ms, reflections cost 4.4 ms and denoising cost 2.5 ms in render time. While that might not seem like much. That is a major difference in render time.

This is very interesting because the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti is a top of the line graphics card and the scene was running at 1080p, which it should be able to pull off with ease. You can check out the render time cost in the image below:

The major selling point of the Nvidia RTX series is Real-Time Ray Tracing and if these cards cannot pull that off then they are going to be a pretty tough sell. Remedy has announced that Nvidia Real-Time Ray Tracing feature has been added to control and the following is what the developer had to say in this regard:

Remedy has added ray-tracing to Control, starting with glossy Ray Traced Reflections, Ray Traced Diffuse Global Illumination and Contact Shadows for most influential light sources. The Bureau’s glossy office environments are a perfect showcase for Global Illumination and Reflections, enabling the realistic reflection of floors, walls and furniture, elevating image quality and immersion.

The Nvidia RTX 2070 has just been released. The graphics card offers double the performance of the GTX 1070. It also performs better than the Titan Xp and costs less. If you are interested in the RTX 2070 then you should check out the custom SKUs as well.

Let us know what you think about the performance of the Nvidia RTX 2080 Ti with RTX effects on at 1080p and whether or not you are interested in getting one of these graphics cards.
