AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs Will Offer 13% IPC Gains Compared To Zen+

The upcoming AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs will be based on a smaller node which means better efficiency and higher performance. You can expect higher clock speeds.

AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs are next in line and while there is very little information regarding these chips right now. New reports claim that the upcoming CPUs will offer 13% gains in IPC as compared to the Zen+ CPUs.

The Zen+ CPUs are the AMD Ryzen second-generation CPUs. While the second generation chips are here, they are not based on AMD Zen 2. The current chips are based on the 12nm process. The upcoming AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs will be based on a smaller node which means better efficiency and higher performance. You can expect the clock speeds of these chips to be higher.

This report comes from Bits And Chips. While there is no confirmation regarding the matter and this is an unreleased product. It is worth noting that this is a very reliable source and has been correct about numerous things in the past as well. You should still take this information with a grain of salt and wait for the official announcement from AMD.

AMD Zen 2 7nm Roadmap

AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs are already in development and they are expected to release in 2019. If that is indeed the case then they will put a lot of pressure on Intel that is still using the 14nm process. According to the latest findings and reports, it seems that Intel will use 14nm node in 2019 as well and that 10nm chips will release no sooner than 2020.

If all this is indeed true then AMD is catching up very fast. We would not have imagined that something like this would happen a few years from now. But it is what it is. Furthermore, AMD Threadripper Dynamic Local Mode has been introduced and this is a feature that will increase the performance of AMD Threadripper CPUs by a significant margin.

Let us know what you think about AMD Zen 2 7nm CPUs and whether or not you are interested in getting one of these chips when they come out next year.
