Epic Games, the developer of the most popular battle royale game has filed a lawsuit against a Youtuber for selling Fortnite cheats. A Youtuber who goes by the name of ‘Golden Modz’ has violated the Digital Millennium Copyright Act according to Epic Games.
He was often found cheating in the game and selling those cheats to people afterward. He did it by advertising those cheats through his Youtube videos and allowing them to be purchased from his site.
He has around 1.7 Million subscribers. He managed to get the attention of all the gamers around the world including Epic Games. Addressing cheaters is the highest priority for Epic games since 2017 so it didn’t take long for them to strike at this Youtuber.
Epic Games says:
This is a copyright infringement, breach of contract, and tortious interference case in which the Defendants are infringing Epic’s copyrights by injecting unauthorized cheat software (‘cheats’ or ‘hacks’) into the copyright protected code of Epic’s popular video game Fortnite.
The company also mentions that Lucas ‘Golden Modz’ is selling cheats and accounts for his personal use to gain wealth. That’s why he posts the videos of people using these cheats.
Epic Games has asked Youtube to remove more of his videos as it violates the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. Though on the other hand, Lucas says that he’s innocent as he’s just a kid making Youtube videos just like everyone else.
According to the reports, Epic Games wants Lucas to pay the damages and also intends to take all of his profits gained from selling Fortnite cheats.
Lucas is not alone in this as his frequent partner ‘Colton Conter’ has also been accused.
With Fortnite being so popular, Epic Games intends to send out a message to all the cheaters to put an end to it.
In other news, Fortnite players are now being targeted by data theft malware. This is also being done by several Youtube channels. People are selling fake versions of the game and they result in all of your personal data being stolen without you knowing.
The best practice right now is to stay away from anything outside of the game. Avoid any links you see referring to the game cheats or V-bucks. Only purchase cosmetics from the in-game store.
