Valve Under Investigation for Selling a Racist, Sexist Game on Steam

Big name publications have come under investigations for many reasons lately and now, Valve has joined the party as well. The company is currently under investigation in Brazil. Valve’s Steam platform sold a politically charged video games targeting a political leader in Brazil. According to a report from Kotaku, Jair Bolsonaro is a Brazilian politician who plans to cut corruption in Brazil but also made sexist, racist and homophobic remarks.

So he’s the Trump of Brazil?

Anyways, Bolsonaro is the lead character of a game called Bolsomito 2K18. In the game, the player takes the character and ruthlessly punches people of color and members of the LGBTQ community as well as political rivals.

Defeat the communistic evils in this disrespectful game and be the hero that will free the nation from misery. Be prepared to face many kinds of enemies that intend to establish a criminal ideological dictatorship in the country. A lot of brawl and good laughs.

The game released earlier this month on October 5 and has seen criticism by its opposers. Meanwhile, the overall review score for the game is in the “Mostly Positive” range. It is safe to say the politician has plenty of support in the Brazilian gaming community.

The game’s release days before Brazilian election’s first leg pushed Brazil’s Public Ministry to look into Federal District and Territories to start an investigation into the game and Steam. According to the ministry of Federal District and Territories, the game was clearly developed to harm the Presidency of the Republic and thereby embarrass the 2018 elections.

One game can’t do much to harm anything but Valve has previously been criticized for letting hateful groups set up camp at Steam. This doesn’t look good on Valve and its free for all standard for video game publishing on Steam needs to change.
