Intel i9 9900K vs Ryzen 2700X Gaming Benchmarks Are Fake

The Intel i9 9900K is out now and Intel has used a whitepaper in order to show the superiority of the top of the line chip that it has to offer. The document claims that the Intel i9 9900K is up to 50% faster than the AMD Ryzen 2700X, keeping in mind that both CPUs have the same number of cores and threads.

These Intel i9 9900K benchmarks are misleading to say the very least. The CPU benchmark seemed to be unusually higher as compared to the competition and that is because the AMD Ryzen 2700X benchmarks have been crippled in comparison.

The first issue that needs to be brought to the attention of the general consumer is that the AMD CPUs were tested without XMP enabled. AMD CPUs are fond of fast RAM and without XMP these CPUs take a hit of up to 15%.

The second point worth noticing is that the graphics card that was used for these tests was the GTX 1080 Ti. The resolution was 1080p. Although this is the most commonly used resolution, you must wonder why games were not tested at the higher resolutions. This is misleading indeed.

The document also mentions that Game Mode was used on AMD Threadripper CPUs. This is critical when it comes to AMD Ryzen Threadripper CPUs because when you use Game Mode on these chips, the core count is cut in half. The user manual mentions that this feature should not be used with AMD Ryzen 7 series and that it is meant for AMD Threadripper only.

TechSpot did the same benchmarks with proper settings and you can see in the image below that there is a clear difference and that AMD CPUs were indeed crippled for the sake of making Intel CPUs look better.

Intel i9 9900K

While the Intel i9 9900K might be the top of the line CPU that Intel has to offer right now, it is not as great as Intel would have you believe. I still think that the CPU is a tough sell keeping in mind the price and that AMD Ryzen CPUs are competitive enough to give Intel a tough time.

Let us know what you think about the Intel i9 9900K and whether or not you are interested in getting one of these CPUs.
