How long has Crackdown 3 been in development? It’s hard to remember without doing a quick Google search at this point. It was one of the first games to be hyped under Microsoft “power of the cloud” campaign. Crackdown 3 saw multiple delays over the years and as it now stands, the game still needs more work.
However, a full build is playable as confirmed by Microsoft’s Phil Spencer. Replying to a Twitter user Phil Spencer mentioned he played Crackdown 3. He also confirmed that there is more work to be done.
I was playing a full build yesterday. Nice work by the team, more work to do but good progress, my agent felt like the wrecking machine I enjoy 🙂

A number of developers have handled Crackdown 3 over the years – Raegent Games, Sumo Digital, and Cloudgine. Right now, only Sumo is handling the game’s development. Most of the work is reportedly complete but there is plenty still do to.
Crackdown 3 is expected to roll out in February 2019 but a release date is yet to be confirmed. The lack of release date has many concerned for another delay. Crackdown 3 is quickly becoming The Last Guardian of Microsoft.
At this point, it is safe to say Crackdown 3 could very well be a cross-generation title. Rumor has it that Xbox Scarlett news is coming later this year, prior to the release of Crackdown 3. If Microsoft shares its plans for the next-gen console, Crackdown 3 is likely to be on it. While The Last Guardian missed an entire console generation and never released on PS3, Crackdown could at least be cross-gen.
Even if that’s not the case, a remaster of the game is highly likely to appear on Xbox Scarlett.
With the new machine, Microsoft’s focus will be on the first-party lineup. The crackdown would be a great addition as well as a system seller for Xbox Scarlett. The company acquired new studios for Xbox Scarlet games.
