As promised with the Forsaken for Destiny 2, fans will be able to play in two different new modes coming soon to the game. One of these, Destiny 2 Forsaken Breakthrough mode, is a competitive PvP mode. In this guide, we have detailed everything you need to know Breakthrough Mode.
Destiny 2 Forsaken Breakthrough
Let us first look at what Bungie’s official site has to offer regarding the mode and then we will proceed to break it down:
“At the beginning of each round, players will fight to capture a central zone. Once the zone is captured, your team will deploy the Breaker.
As players work to deploy the Breaker, the zone can be contested, resulting in an epic tug-of-war between the two teams. Once the Breaker is captured, it will be used to assault and hack the enemy team’s Vault.
If you hack the enemy team’s Vault, you win the round. If you fail to hack the enemy team’s Vault within the round time limit, you lose.
If you are in the process of hacking the enemy team’s Vault when time runs out, you will enter Sudden Death until you either hack the Vault, or the enemy removes all your progress.
The first team to win three rounds takes the match.”
This is not so dissimilar from King of the Hill mode in Team Fortress 2. Though some core concepts from Destiny 2’s Control Mode remain, there is this exception where the set teams will be divided into offense and defense classes.
One team has the job of escorting a Breaker to the location of the enemy’s vault where you can hack it. This will automatically result in the victory of that team.
However, there is a twist to keep things interesting when you are in the process of hacking. Your either complete the process of hacking or say goodbye to everything you have done until that point.
To start with the actual mode, you will need to boot up the Crucible and then search for the mode in Weekly Feature Playlist. Starting from October 2, the mode will appear under Competitive Playlist feature.
From here, you have the choice of joining a Public Lobby until the 4 vs. 4 teams are completed. Otherwise, you can always have some friends play each other in a private session of the mode.
Three new fresh maps have been introduced to complement the Breakthrough mode. These are:
- Firebase Echo: A map revolving around a space station, this makes for some tight close quarter situations.
- Equinox: The climate here is extreme when it comes to snow and ice. Since the structures tower above and at angles, the movement really matters in this one.
- The Citadel: A more archaic location inspired by the structures of ancient Greece and Rome. These comprise of hiding spots including caves, so always be on the lookout.
It is interesting to note with this mode and soon the Gambit one will mean an almost overflow of content in the game when it started with so little. Now is a good time as any to embark on your journey in Destiny 2.
