Forza Horizon 4 is the next game in the franchise and this time the game is going to take us all to Great Britain. Forza Horizon has always been a technical marvel and you are able to play it on PC at max settings and resolution and it seems that if you have an AMD graphics card then you will have an edge over Nvidia when playing Forza Horizon 4.
AMD Vs Nvidia Performance Difference
AMD claims that its graphics cards are able to beat Nvidia in Forza Horizon 4 benchmarks. According to the claims the AMD RX Vega 64 performs 12-20% better as compared to the GTX 1080. Similar is the case for other graphics cards as well. The RX Vega 56 has an edge over the GTX 1070 Ti by 2-12%, the lead is higher when compared to the GTX 1070 in which case the Vega 56 performs 13-22% better.
Moving on to the mid-range graphics cards, the AMD RX 580 is able to perform 12-16% better than the GTX 1060 6 GB model and the AMD RX 570 is able to beat the GTX 1050 Ti by up to 58% better performance when playing Forza Horizon 4.
Forza Horizon 4 Benchmarks
The hardware that was used to benchmark Forza Horizon 4 was the Intel Core i7-7700K, running at 4 GHz. The system was also using 16 GB of RAM and the latest drivers. At 1080p the AMD Vega 64 was able to deliver 155 FPS on air and 162 FPS when liquid cooled. The GTX 1080, on the other hand, was able to deliver 141 fps. All these numbers have been recorded at the high preset.
Turning the settings up to Ultra resulted in a dip in performance as expected. The AMD Vega 64 was able to run Forza Horizon 4 at 125 FPS while the GTX 1080 ran the game at 111 FPS. Turning the resolution up to 1440p brought down the FPS considerably.
The AMD Vega 64 was still able to run the game at 100 FPS, while the GTX 1080 ran the game at 89 FPS. Keeping in mind that both graphics cards were able to run the game at over 60 FPS is impressive but then this is what you expect from such high-end graphics cards.
4K 60 FPS
Turning up the settings to 4K reduced the performance of these graphics cards dramatically. With high settings, the AMD RX Vega 64 was able to run the game at 85 FPS and it was also able to deliver 68 FPS when using the ultra pre-set.
The GTX 1080, on the other hand, was able to deliver 78 FPS and 72 FPS respectively. Keeping in mind that both these graphics cards are able to run Forza Horizon 4 at 4K 60 FPS, the performance is pretty impressive but AMD does have an edge even though it might be a slight one at the higher preset.
AMD has worked closely with developers in order to provide this performance but it is worth noting that these numbers are from AMD. You should also check out the benchmarks from other sources as well. It is also worth mentioning that while the GTX 1080 and the AMD Vega 64 are priced similarly and you might be able to find a Vega 64 variant that is cheaper than the Nvidia GTX 1080 depending on where you live, the supply of Vega cards is still pretty thin and this is a victory in one game alone.
Let us know what you think about Forza Horizon 4 and whether or not you are interested in playing the game when it comes out on October 2nd.
