Wolfenstein: Youngblood’s Co-Op Won’t Change Core Wolfenstein Experience

Bethesda announced Wolfenstein: Youngblood at its E3 2018 presentation. However, despite being a single-player franchise, the upcoming game is a co-op experience which obviously has fans worried but Bethesda has assured that co-op won’t change the Wolfenstein experience.

This is according to Pete Hines, Senior Vice President of global marketing at Bethesda.

Pete noted while talking to VG247 at QuakeCon 2018 and assured that the co-op experience of Wolfenstein: Youngblood won’t take away what makes Wolfenstein franchise unique from other first-person shooters out there.

He added that that Wolfenstein: Youngblood is the same experience as the singleplayer only Wolfenstein titles out there.

Making the game co-op will not bring dramatic changes like the game becoming an open-world RPG like Skyrim.

In the case of Wolfenstein, it was: ‘Well, we want to do this thing where you get to play as one of BJ’s twin daughters’. We were like, ‘What’s the other one doing?’. They were like, ‘Nothing, or maybe they can be an AI companion’. ‘Well, if she’s an AI companion, could you let somebody else play the other one?’.

It’s co-op, but it’s kind of the same game, because if somebody’s not playing with you it doesn’t feel dramatically different. She’s still there, whether it’s an AI or a person. It doesn’t change the experience wholesale. It’s not like it’s Skyrim and all of a sudden some dude turns up. Ultimately, as with all things, we’re interested in what our devs think.

The game has been announced for PC and current-gen consoles, however, the game could come to Nintendo Switch as a report has been making rounds on the internet suggesting that Fallout 76 and Wolfenstein: Youngblood will soon be announced for Nintendo Switch.

It would not be surprising to see these games coming to Nintendo Switch since other titles from Bethesda like Skyrim, Doom, Wolfenstein 2: The New Order and more have released for the hybrid console.

Wolfenstein: Youngblood is a first-person co-op shooter in development at Machine Games for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4. The game will see BJ’s twin daughters as the game’s protagonists.
