God Of War PS4 brought back Kratos as a wise man and a father with a wrinkled yet ripped body. However, Sony Santa Monica initially planned to showcase Kratos as “Dad Bod” in God Of War PS4 but, things changed throughout development.
This is according to game director Cory Barlog who spoke at San Diego Comic-Con 2018 panel about God Of War PS4 and how he envisioned Kratos as a man who has let himself go.
However, his vision of Kratos as a Dad Bod” didn’t come to fruition as the rest of the development team didn’t agree with this idea.
In the beginning we were talking about, you know, “What is Kratos going to look like?” And I kind of wanted to go extreme. I was like, “He should have really let himself go, right?”… Yeah, dad bod, right? David Harbour as Kratos. And I thought it could be really cool.
He added that the change to ripped Kratos throughout the development wasn’t a sudden one but, it was a gradual process as devs kept on changing Kratos’ looks for the title.
Eventually, Kratos was ripped and it was just Kratos’ beard and the voice of Chris Judge voice that made him seem aged.
Then we started describing it as an athlete in the off-season. Then we just very slowly moved away from that–without my knowledge. So they just kept changing it a little, like, “It looks different today,” and they’re like, “Don’t worry about it, it’s cool. Same as yesterday. Same thing as yesterday.” Then eventually he just got really ripped again. And then it was really the beard and Chris’s [Judge] voice that aged him.
In the end, we can agree that Kratos looked badass, a combination of a wise man and a warrior with a lifetime of violent experiences.
Speaking of the game, it is one of the best games to launch this year and the highest rated PS4 exclusive. But, that is not the only record the game has made.
According to NPD data, God Of War PS4 is the best-selling PlayStation exclusive since 1995.
