Even though it is not canceled, Crackdown 3 has been facing delays and outer silence for quite some time now. Fans have been waiting for the third installation of the franchise to hit Xbox One this year, however, Sumo Digital had other plans. Now, the developers reveal the reasons behind their silence and why they had to act that way.
During a recent talk with GamesIndustry.biz, managing director of Sumo Digital Paul Porter spoken proudly of Crackdown 3 and he believes that it is a title worthy of its name and anticipation. He points out that Sumo isn’t a company that wants “to be in the limelight” and instead they want to silently work on their projects and deliver a solid experience with no huge statements.
According to him, it was difficult for them to talk about Crackdown 3 as a lead designer since it’s the first time for the studio:
“I think that’s why we struggle sometimes when we are the lead developer because we’re not used to being the ones shouting about it. We’re used to being the ones working quietly in the background.”
So if you were worried that Crackdown 3 might have been secretly canceled and that’s why we haven’t heard of it, you are mistaken. The title is alive and well but Sumo is trying to polish it to the point of nothing being left not taken care of. Porter stated:
“As you know the release date’s moved back, confirmed as February next year, and that’s great news because it gives us the time to polish a game that’s pretty much done, but make it better and better. The way to make the best games is you finish them, then finish them again, and then finish them again. That’s what we’re doing with Crackdown 3.”
The game slated to roll out in February 2019 for Windows 10 and Xbox One. We hope it won’t face another delay at that point since it might be the turning point for fans that were anticipating to play the game. Note that, even if you aren’t keen on buying Crackdown 3, you can still try it through Xbox Game Pass when it releases.
