Monster Hunter World Is Extremely CPU Intensive, Capcom Confirms

Reports have emerged that Monster Hunter World struggles to run at 60 FPS even with a GTX 1080 and now Capcom has confirmed that the game is CPU intensive.

Monster Hunter World will launch for PC next month and PC gamers are excited about the game. However, reports have emerged that Monster Hunter World struggles to run at 60 FPS even with a GTX 1080 and now Capcom has confirmed that the game is CPU intensive.

According to Capcom, the reason why Monster Hunter World is CPU intensive instead of GPU is that the game’s entire level is loaded to avoid loading during gameplay.

In addition to that, the game also keeps track of monster interactions, health status and much more in real time, which requires CPU cycles and that is why the game is so much CPU intensive.

To eliminate interstitial loading during active gameplay, MHW loads the entire level into memory. In addition to managing assets loaded into memory, it keeps track of monster interactions, health status, environment/object changes, manages LOD & object culling, calculates collision detection and physics simulation, and tons of other background telemetry stuff that you don’t see yet requires CPU cycle. This is in addition to supporting any GPU rendering tasks.

These are sure a lot of tasks that the CPU has to perform which makes sense why the game would be CPU intensive.

This also explains why the game would struggle to run at 60 FPS even with a GTX 1080 as the CPU would be utilized to keep track of monster and other stuff.

With all that happening there wouldn’t be enough headroom for the CPU to utilize GTX 1080 properly and hence the FPS drops. Here are the system requirements for the game.

Assassin’s Creed Origins is one of the recent examples of video games that are CPU intensive as the game uses almost 100% of the CPU and still doesn’t manages to reach 60 FPS.

The same reason goes for the Assassins Creed Origins, the CPU utilization is so high that it doesn’t have enough headroom to utilize the GPU and hence FPS drops. We hope that Capcom will roll out a patch to smooth things further.

Monster Hunter World is an open-world action adventure game developed by Capcom for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and will launch on August 9, 2018, for PC.
