William Gibson’s Unadapt Script of Alien 3 is Getting a Comic Book Series

Sci-fi’s one of the most celebrated writers, William Gibson, is getting his scripted version of Alien 3 restored through a Comic Book Series by Dark Horse Comics. Johnnie Christmas will be the artist and writer behind the comic restoration of Gibson’s vision of the Alien franchise.

The film edition of Alien 3 by David Fincher was considered to be an unorthodox installment then the narrative of prior films. Alien 3 faced a lot of backlash due to most of the characters from the original movies being killed off.

Let’s not forget the rushed ending that it had which completely transformed the narrative of the whole series. The whole idea of giving Alien 3 a comic book series is to revive the version that William Gibson truly wanted to tell in his perspective of the Alien franchise.

When Gibson wrote the script for Alien 3 he was unable to present it in his ideas on the series rather he was asked to follow up on the story of previous installments. Dark Horse Comics will provide the fans with an opportunity to witness Gibson’s side to the plot of Alien 3 through a comic book series. As Alien 3 was put to screen William’s ideas were hardly made part of it. Now Johnnie Christmas who will be the main artist of the comic book series development will bring Gibson’s Alien vision back to life.

Gibson explicitly stated while assuring his trust in Johnnie Christmas:

When your first contracted screenplay (or screenplay of any kind, in my case) isn’t produced, but the film is eventually made with a different screenplay, retaining nothing of yours but a barcode tattoo on the back of a character’s neck, the last thing you ever expect is to see yours beautifully adapted and realized, decades later, in a different medium, by an artist of Johnnie Christmas’ caliber. It’s a wonderful experience, and I have no doubt that Johnnie’s version, which adheres almost entirely to the script, delivers more of my material to the audience than any feature film would have been likely to do.

Majorly, the plot of Alien 3’s comic version will bring together a political discord to set off warfare in an emotional war thriller. Further enlightening us about the plot of the comic series, Gibson assured of the return of formerly killed characters and their crucial roles in the storyline. He also claimed that he strongly opposed killing them in the first place.

With the preview of its debut released the first issue of Alien 3 scripted by William Gibson and written by Johhnie Christmas is going on sale from Nov 7, 2018.
