Fans who are somewhat frustrated at a lack of many fighting games on the Nintendo Switch might have cause for celebration soon, as a recent Twitter leak by user Atrox, who works for Lab Zero Games, has said that we’ll be getting the fighting game Skullgirls on Nintendo Switch.
Skullgirls is a rather odd fighting game with a wide variety of colorful characters across its roster. Taking place in the Canopy Kingdom, the world is constantly held in danger of a being called the Skullgirl, a woman who makes a wish on an item known as the Skull Heart and is found unworthy. The game’s roster are mostly all young girls who have their own wishes to make on the Skull Heart.
Skullgirls received positive reviews back when it was first released in 2012, and numerous pieces of DLC, along with a rerelease in the form of Skullgirls: Encore, and then became 2nd Encore when the game made it to consoles other than the previous-gen Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
The game has managed to be very successful despite how long ago it released, especially considering its rather rough development cycle, which required a publisher transition and for the game to reform itself as Lab Zero Games from Revenge Games after their publisher didn’t sign a new contract to keep them together. The game eventually had to be crowdfunded, and thankfully smashed its goal.
However, now that the game is actually out and has proven to be a big success, Lab Zero is finally getting around to putting the game on as many consoles as possible. The Skullgirls on Nintendo Switch port is the same console version as everyone else has gotten, meaning that you’ll be able to play the entire game with all of its characters and stages.
There’s no release date yet for Skullgirls on Nintendo Switch, but hopefully Lab Zero Games will have one for us soon.
