Starfield was teased at E3 2018 and while we have only a few details regarding the game, it was announced that the game will be a next generation one but what does that mean? Todd Howard was asked regarding the matter in an interview and the following is what he had to say about the matter:
“That to us means two things. It does mean hardware and it does mean software on our side, and it also means gameplay. What systems we put it out on – what’s the hardware requirements – is still to be determined. We’re pushing it; we’re thinking very, very far in future so we’re building something that will handle next-generation hardware. That’s what we’re building on right now, that’s where our mind is, but that doesn’t mean it wouldn’t exist on the current systems as well.”
While we know that Starfield will be a single player game but we do not know whether or not it will be such a big game as Fallout or Elder Scrolls. The following is what he had to say in this regard:
“I don’t want to say yes or no to that because I don’t know what that means to you or whoever’s going to read that,” he said. “It’s different, but if you sit down and play it you would recognize it as something we made if that makes sense? It has our DNA in it. It has things that we like. But it has a lot of new systems we’ve been thinking about for a while that fit that kind of game really well. We’ll talk about it in the future. See now I wish I hadn’t announced it!”
You can check out the complete interview here. Starfield is a new IP from the company and it has indeed been a long time since we got a new game from Bethesda, so there is a lot of expectation around the game. Plus, from what we have seen from the trailer and speculations the game has a space setting.
It will be interesting to see what the final game is going to be like and how well it will play on modern hardware keeping in mind it is being dubbed as a next-generation game. While the game will be coming out for PC I think the next generation is something specific for consoles. This might mean that the game will be specifically for Xbox Scarlet and PS5. Stay tuned for more information.
Let us know what you think about Starfield and whether or not you are interested in playing the game when it comes out.
