We are almost halfway through the 2018 and there is no sign of next-gen GPUs from Nvidia or AMD. While, Nvidia has noted that next-gen GPUs are way off from now but, it seems that the company has hinted towards the imminent reveal of its GTX 1180.
Nvidia took it to its Twitter account and celebrated Alan Turing’s birthday and also posted a quote from Alan Turing himself which makes things quite interesting and is possibly hinting towards the reveal of the upcoming GTX 1180 and other next-gen GPUs.
The quote reads “We can only see a short distance ahead, but we can see plenty there that needs to be done”. With TSMC moving ahead with 7nm production and GDDR6 to enter mass production soon, it seems that Nvidia is using the quote to hint that it will soon reveal its line up of next-gen GPUs.
Rumors and leaks suggest that next-gen GTX 1180 will be revealed in July 2018 and will be available in the market by August 2018. However, there is a chance that next-gen GPUs from Nvidia might have been delayed with 300,000 GPU being returned by a major OEM.
However, this also seems to suggest that next-gen Nvidia GPUs will be based on the rumored Turing architecture. But, given that it is just speculation, take it with a grain of salt.
Not only that, a report has been making rounds on the internet suggesting that the upcoming GTX 1180 will be priced between $999 to $1499.
According to the report, various Nvidia AIB partners have revealed during Computex 2018 that next-gen Nvidia GTX 1180 will roll out either in August 2018 or September 2018.
What do you think? Will Nvidia launch its next-gen GPU this year? Let us know in the comments.
