Gunfire Games talked about Darksiders 3 in a documentary and according to the developers, they did not have much pre-production time when it came to Darksiders 2 and that the pre-production time that they had was not ideal. When it comes to Darksiders 3, the developers had enough time and it was a smoother experience from a development point of view.
Gunfire Games wanted to concentrate more on their own IPs but Darksiders is something close to their hearts, as it is a game that they have been working on for a long time. The developers had enough time off to know what they wanted to do with the game and the direction that they wanted to take.
According to the developers, they spent a lot of time looking into what Fury can and cannot do and that Darksiders has a lot of following and expectations and the developers are confident that they will be able to meet those expectations.
The developers want to make sure that Darksiders 3 is an evolution of the franchise. In the documentary, we also hear about some details regarding the story and the developers mention that the game will take us deeper into the story. We will not only learn about Fury but also how her story crossing over with the other horsemen. In the trailer we have already seen her encounter with War, it is possible that there will be other horsemen in the game as well.
Darksiders 3 will keep all the core elements of the series that we love and adore, but will also have new aspects that will keep the game fresh. Developers have confirmed that Darksiders 3 will be different as compared to the previous 2 games, just like the second game was different as compared to the original, but there are elements that will remind of the of the previous games.
Devs also talked about the need for every game to be different because you are not playing the same character in each game. Each game needs to be different because each game has a different character.
The world will have “a grand clockwork design” where there are different elements but they all come together in one way or the other. The game might not be as big as the first two, the developers do not have hundreds of people working on the title and the budget is not massive, but the devs are confident that it is a compelling title and I think that the fans of the series are going to buy it no matter what.
The devs mentioned that pleasing people is not easy as some people hopped in with Darksiders 2 and did not like the previous game. There were others that played the first game, but did not like the second game, so that is a challenge. The core elements of the game are going to be the lore, story and combat. Devs believe that as long as those are good people will be happy with Darksiders 3.
