Each year, E3 is the biggest platform where developers come to reveal their products ready for launch or titles that they plan to launch soon. They also update the fans on the progress on their favorite titles that are currently in development.
E3 2018 has finally ended and developers presented many great titles that will be revealed in the future. Although most of the titles were in the making since last E3 and some were anticipated to be revealed since a long time, there were some titles that took us by surprise as no one was expecting these titles to be announced at this E3.
Biggest E3 2018 Surprises
In this article, we have listed all the games that took the world by surprise as no one was expecting them and we are as surprised as you are for their sudden reveal. The reason behind the surprise factor is not just that they have been announced.
For some games, it is also because they are being released on consoles no one expected that these titles would ever come on. This being said, we present our list of biggest surprises of E3 2018 below:
NieR Automata is not a new game, however; it was previously available exclusively on PS4 and PC. This E3, it was announced that this wonderful action-packed game is making its way to Xbox One consoles as well so that the Xbox community can experience this amazing game as well.
This announcement is surprising because since the game has been out for a long time, no one was expecting it to make an entrance at the E3 this year but here we are. The Xbox One is going to get the Become as Gods Edition of the game that includes the base game as well all DLC released for the game up to this date.
Xbox’s E3 conference was full of surprises and one of the biggest one to come out was the announcement of a modern Battletoad game. The first Battletoad game was released in 1991 while the last title to come out was in 1994 that was ages ago.
However, the title is now making a comeback with three-player couch co-op and 4K, 2.5D graphics. All three game heroes are set to make a return to the franchise in 2019.
The Elder Scrolls 6
The Elder Scrolls is one of the best franchises from Bethesda. The last title Skyrim was the best one in the series so far, it saw its release on different generations of consoles, and it even made its way to Nintendo’s Switch. We were hoping that Bethesda would announce a new Elder Scrolls game already but previous E3s were a no-show.
However, during this year’s E3, Bethesda finally revealed the next The Elder Scrolls game that is supposed to the sixth game in the series. However, the game is not coming anytime sooner. Developers of the game have called the game a next-gen title that means that it will come on PS5 and the next Xbox.
As you can see from the above trailer that Bethesda has just confirmed that there will be a next game in the franchise. They have revealed very little about the game. The teaser hardly shows anything about the game except some mountains and a coastline with a castle.
We are glad for this because, at some point in the future, we will be getting more information about the next Elder Scrolls game.
Just Cause 4
Square Enix is busy working on the next Just Cause game and Xbox announced it during their E3 conference. It is one of the big surprises for us because no one expected the next Just Cause game during a Microsoft conference.
The game reveal trailer was not the only thing that was presented during the conference. We were lucky enough to see an actual gameplay trailer during the conference as well.
We will be playing as Rico again in a brand new island. This time around, it looks like we will also come across some natural disasters such as lighting and tornados.
Dying Light 2
The original Dying Light suffered from some problems at its launch such as game bugs and errors but it was eventually fixed with continuous developer support through different patches.
This later made Dying Light a stellar zombie-themed survival parkour game that had amazing gameplay and visuals with a decent storyline.
After the success of the first game despite the buggy launch, we were not expecting a new game from the developers this but here we are. Dying Light 2 was announced at the E3 2018 and it looks amazing.
In the second game, the player choices make a huge difference in the world as demonstrated in the trailer. We are very excited about its reveal and cannot wait to play the game when it comes out.
There was a gameplay reveal as well and the mechanics look very fluid and smooth. The graphics of the game are awesome and how it represents a world that has fallen prey to a zombie apocalypse, stays true to the original Dying Light formula.
However, this time around, the choices you make will make or break the world.
Bethesda was full of surprises this year and yet another great title to be revealed by Bethesda is the new upcoming DOOM game DOOM Eternal. We thought that the DOOM franchise would be done for once the reboot was made but we were wrong. Bethesda presented the following reveal trailer for DOOM Eternal.
The teaser trailer did not show much about the game itself other than just being a reveal trailer but at the end of the trailer, we did get a date for the actual gameplay release. Bethesda plans to reveal the gameplay via a livestream on August 10, 2018, during QuakeCon.
We are now waiting for the gameplay reveal impatiently as the teaser shows that this game is going to be even more brutal than the last one.
Cuphead is an indie game that blew everyone away when it came out. Its unique art style, soundtrack, and animations were top notch and the gameplay was solid. Overall, it was an excellent game. It is also famous for its difficult boss fights which to be fair, not everyone who bought the game was able to clear.
At E3 2018, it was announced that the game is getting some new DLC and it looks promising.
It adds tons of new content to the game namely a new island, new boss fights, new hit and run levels, new weapons and a new playable character. This is huge for an indie game and we are very excited to play the new content when it is launched.
Forza Horizon 4
We have been getting a new Forza game at every E3 conference for the past few years with Motorsport and Horizon alternating each year. Last year, it was Motorsport so naturally this year it was Horizon’s turn.
However, Microsoft had been awfully quiet about a new Forza Horizon game that people actually thought that Forza Horizon 3 could be the last one in the entry.
There were few leaked images, some time ago which were claimed as Forza Horizon 4 showing the game set in Japan but they were later confirmed as fake. Microsoft yet surprised Forza fans with a sudden announcement of Forza Horizon 4 during its E3 conference.
However, it was not just a teaser trailer. They also presented full gameplay footage along with detailed game information. This shows that the game has been in development for a long time and Microsoft did well to keep it hidden. This time around, Forza Horizon is set in the UK and features massive 72-player online servers and some sheep.
For the first time ever, you will be able to purchase houses and business in a Forza Horizon game. The game also features some of the best racing machines in the world including the beastly McLaren Senna.
It features dynamic seasons with each season lasting for a week of real-world time. All these features look promising and we cannot wait to finally play it.
Fallout 76 was revealed by Bethesda just a few days before E3 but the teaser trailer revealed very few details about the game and showed only handful facts about the game.
Bethesda released major details about the game during its E3 conference with the biggest one that Fallout 76 is going to be four times bigger than Fallout 4.
During the E3 conference, Bethesda showed everything that the teaser trailer was missing. It was confirmed that the game is indeed set in Vault 76 and the game will serve as a prequel to all other Fallout games in the franchise. For the first time, Fallout is going to have multiplayer as well.
