The Last Of Us 2 Gameplay Trailer Reminds Us Why Men Should Be Terrified Of Ellie

Sony took an interesting approach with its E3 2018 media briefing. Instead of a massive, fancy stage, the conference took place inside a church tent that was taken directly from their first showing, The Last of Us 2.

Following a soulful performance by Gustavo Santaolalla (playing TLoU soundtrack), we are dropped directly into the gameplay trailer. As mentioned earlier, the trailer is set in the same place as the church tent Sony built for the conference.

The gameplay trailer shows Ellie with a friend at a dance party commenting how they do not like these type of events before another woman (most likely, her girlfriend) takes Ellie away to dance. Following a kiss, the trailer cuts to another scene of Ellie slitting a man’s throat in the woods.

The entire sequence looks like gameplay with Ellie crawling and hiding around in the undergrowth. The entirety of the gameplay gives us a close look at how stealth will work in the game (which is not a whole lot different from the original TLoU).

Once the element of surprise is lost, we see a chase ensue with Ellie crawling under a bus. One of the instances I particularly like shows Ellie grab a bottle while running and toss it at her pursuer. The combat involves QTEs and seems to be very close and visceral. Ellie is capable of salvaging things like arrows from corpses and crafting (explosive arrows to cause havoc) on the go.

Once all the action subsides, the scene once again cuts back to the dance where we started with her girlfriend telling Ellie how men should be terrified of her. Of course, she meant it as competition for her attention but Ellie must have something else running in the back of her head.

The Last of Us 2 is scheduled to release on Playstation 4 and PS4 Pro. No release date has been provided as of now. If I were to venture a guess, I would not get my hopes up before 2020. A recent leak pointed out to this year release window but Sony made no mention of it.
