Red Dead Redemption 2 Gunplay Will Apparently Be A Mix Between GTA 5, Max Payne

As any good adventure in the Old West should be, apparently Red Dead Redemption 2 gunplay is going to be a mix between Grand Theft Auto 5 and Max Payne, according to a rumor on the official Grand Theft Auto forums. That sort of gunplay actually wouldn’t be too out of place, either.

The original Red Dead Redemption’s gunplay was already that sort of mix, though it only had one automatic weapon (a Gatling gun, which you use in an early mission). The game had a weapon wheel that allowed you to hold numerous weapons ranging from revolvers to rifles to shotguns and dynamite, and there has also been bullet time.

However, Red Dead Redemption’s own version of Bullet Time, which was known in that game as “Dead Eye”, was a chargeable mechanic where players could slow down time and tag a large number of targets before shooting all of them dead in the span of a second, rather than actual bullet time that allows you to dodge bullets with cool dives.

However, if Red Dead Redemption 2 gunplay ends up having more Max Payne-like bullet time then that might either replace Dead Eye or give it more versatility. We’ll likely have to see the game in action before we can really see what all those rumors on GTAForums.com are actually talking about.

Considering that Red Dead Redemption 2 places players in a time before the original game when the Dutch gang was on the run from the law, there’s likely to be plenty of different situations where gunfights will likely result.

And, considering how gunfights in the original Red Dead Redemption often turned out, we can likely expect a pretty hectic mess from the whole thing, not that any open-world player wouldn’t enjoy getting in as big of a gunfight as possible, Wild Bunch style.

Either way, hopefully we’ll get to see some Red Dead Redemption 2 gunplay either at this year’s E3 or at some point around it. Red Dead Redemption 2 will be coming out for Xbox One and Playstation 4 on October 26 of this year.
