New Video Game Division Launched by J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot, Kojima Part 2 Incoming?

The production company, Bad Robot by J.J. Abrams and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment have entered into a partnership with Tencent games to launch a new video game division called Bad Robot Games.

J.J. Abrams himself will not be the head instead Bad Robot Games will be lead by Dave Baranoff who has been in charge of Bad Robot’s games and interactive content creation since 2006. The company will use its expertise in movies to hire writers, creative directors, visual artists, designers and in-house artists to develop both the indie and AAA level games for PC, mobile and consoles.

Tim Keenan who’s known for his indie game ”Duskers” will take the role of creative director for the new division.

J.J. Abrams said:

“I’m a massive games fan, and increasingly envious of the amazing tools developers get to work with, and the worlds they get to play in,” Abrams said in a statement. “Now we are doubling down on our commitment to the space with a unique co-development approach to game making that allows us to focus on what we do best, and hopefully be a meaningful multiplier to our developer partners. Dave’s creativity, deep passion, and skillful leadership will be incredibly valuable as we harness our partner Tencent’s expertise, experience, and reach to bring our games to audiences around the world.”

Tencent will provide funding rights in exchange for distribution rights of the upcoming titles. This news also reveals the growing empire of Tencent who has developed some major known games including the famous mobile strategy game Honor of Kings.

Tencent already owns Riot Games who’s the developer of League of Legends and also has a stake in Epic Games who is known for their hit Battle Royale game, Fortnite.

There are no current projects announced and it seems Abrams will be involved in the games which will be quite interesting to see.
