Polygon, once again, has started a rumor that we’ll be seeing three new Gears of War games at E3 2018, which brings up a whole mess of questions on what they might be about and where they got the source from. But if it is true, who knows what they would involve.
Gears of War 4 was the fourth entry in the Gears of War series, which told the story of a new threat to a rebuilding humanity as Marcus Fenix’s son JD goes on a journey to try to find and stop the Swarm, a new threat that’s been created from Locust that were supposedly killed at the end of Gears of War 3.
The possibility of three new Gears of War games being announced at E3 brings up a huge question, one that’s biggest than whether or not the news is true or not: if there are three games, what would they even be about? While continuing the fight against the Swarm is an obvious choice, that leaves possibly two or even just one out of the picture.
While The Coalition managed to make a fairly well-reviewed game with Gears of War 4, asking them to develop three different Gears of War games at once is nuts, unless two other game developers are making the other two games like when Gears of War Judgment was developed by People Can Fly.
Gears of War is a setting that has a lot of history behind it, such as the rest of the Locust War (when we only got to see the final stages) and the eighty-year-long Pendulum Wars between the Coalition of Ordered Governments and the Union of Independent Republics, who we have only gotten to see briefly at the end of Gears of War 3 and Judgment in the form of Paduk.
Either way, whether it’s a rumor or not, there’s likely a lot of fans out there that would appreciate three new Gears of War games, as long as they’re good. We’ll have to see if it’s true when E3 rolls around.
