It’s been 5 years since Grand Theft Auto 5 came out, which is still making records along with getting new content since launch for free or add-ons with microtransactions, but will that be the case with Red Dead Redemption 2? Take-Two has discussed.
The only thing which has been missing from GTA V is a story DLC which surprised and upset many fans and made everyone think if RockStar will release a story DLC for Red Dead Redemption 2 or not? It is too soon to answer but Take-Two has responded to it by saying that it is a very profitable business model for the company.
Most people think there will be no DLC in the future like Grand Theft Auto 4’s “The Ballad of Gay Tony” and “The Lost and The Damned” due to the lack of story DLC in GTA 5.
Speaking at the Cowen and Company 46th Annual Technology, Media & Telecom Conference today, Take-Two Interactive President Karl Slatoff and Take-Two’s CFOs talked about the future of traditional DLC content by saying:
Across the board, we do see downloadable content as an interesting business model for us, It depends on a game-by-game basis whether that makes sense.
RockStar mentioned that they will definitely take a look at it in the future games but they didn’t mention it in regards to Red Dead Redemption 2 or other games. Karl Slatoff added that DLC is a very compelling model for consumers as it allows them to continue to engage in the game.
Other than that, the company made it clear that at RockStar, Red Dead Redemption 2 and Grand Theft Auto Online are completely separate and independent of each other meaning decision making for both games is separate.
Now it is unclear if Red Dead Redemption 2 will feature a similar business model to that of GTA Online by including in-game currencies and items. It is quite interesting to know Take-Two will consider story DLC an option depending on the game.
