The success of PUBG is something that every gamer is accustomed to, even though Fortnite may have stolen its thunder, PUBG will still be responsible for the modern battle royale genre. There is no denying that it has spent the last year setting and breaking multiple records and honestly speaking, it was the underlying success of PUBG that inspired Epic to rip off its concept in the first place. That said, Brendan Greene, the creator has shared that the high benchmark set by the game, has put a lot of pressure on his next game.
In an interview with Edge magazine, Brendan Greene was asked, how he felt to be the progenitor of perhaps the most popular game in the world? To which his answer came pretty much unexpected to the audience, according to him he feels a lot of pressure regarding his best game now. Since he is a known personality due to the success of his Battle Royale work, there are a lot of expectations set by fans which he fears of not being able to fully deliver.
Talking about the next game he specifically said,
“Yeah, I am dreading my next game, because it’s PlayerUnknown’s Next Game,”
Further talking about the expectation fans will have, he said,
“And there’s going to be eyes on it. No matter what I do, there’s going to be a lot of critics going”
He also acknowledged that the next game is certainly no PUBG and that he has accepted that. The most interesting thing he said was that he has no plans to “make a game that’s going to get like, three million concurrent users, and tens of millions of players every month.”
In fact, he wants to make a game that he would want to play and provided if others don’t want to play it, he is totally fine with it. Ultimately he will still have a game that he could play.
On the end note, he said, “I’m probably going to get shit on, but that’s okay.”
