12-16 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs Reportedly Coming In 2019 For AM4 Chipset

AMD has been giving Intel a run for its money with its 2nd-gen Ryzen CPUs due to its competitive prices, higher core/thread count and more. However, a report has made its way on the internet suggesting that 12-16 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs are rolling out in 2019 for AM4 chipset.

The report comes from WCCCFTech, who claim that industry sources have revealed to them that 12-16 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs will be dropping in 2019. Furthermore, the sources emphasized that 12 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs for the AM4 chipset will be the most likely outcome in 2019.

Given that it is just a rumor, take it as a grain of salt but it will be interesting to see if AMD actually introduces 12-16 Core AMD Ryzen CPUs for the consumers which might become the new norm for consumer CPUs.

AMD has completed Zen 2 architecture design which will be based on 7 nm process and if the rumor is true then we might see AMD Ryzen CPUs with 12-16 cores based on Zen 2 architecture.

According to AMD, the design for 7nm Zen 2 is complete and it improves over Zen architecture in “multiple dimensions” which might indicate that 7nm Zen 2 will be available in 2019 as the slide states that Zen 3 will be out in 2020.

Speaking of Zen architecture, it seems that the AMD Zen 5 will be based on 3 nm process instead of on 5 nm as GlobalFoundries plans to skip the latter one altogether.

According to CEO of GlobalFoundries Tom Caulfield, he doesn’t think that 5 nm is going to be enough for the company to invest in it and 3 nm process will be required to get “full performance”. However, he didn’t confirm that the company will indeed skip the 5 nm in favor of 3 nm process.

Do you think AMD will introduce 12-16 Core Ryzen CPUs? Let us know in the comments.
