Monolith Soft, the studio behind the entire Xenoblade series, has just stated that they want to create more new Xenoblade games in the future, including a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 and a sequel to Xenoblade Chronicles X. While both games are fairly different, they each got positive receptions with most gaming audiences.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is the sequel to the original Xenoblade Chronicles, which got brought back into the public eye when it was remastered and released onto the New Nintendo 3DS, bringing Shulk and his friends back into gaming history with enough success that he got a spot in the roster for the Super Smash Bros Wii U game.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 focuses on a new character, Rex, as he sets out on a journey to help humanity return to the paradise they once knew with the help of a mysterious girl named Pyra. The game got positive reviews on release despite a few hiccups, and also sold very well, reaching 1.3 million copies by the end of March of this year.
Xenoblade Chronicles X is a bit of a different beast, being a science fiction adventure game telling the story of a group of stranded colonists who were fleeing from an Earth destroyed by a conflict between two alien races. That game also got positive reviews and also sold very well, and even had an open (and rather mind-screwy) ending, leaving room for a sequel.
While there’s no telling what a Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would be about, considering that Chronicles 2 wasn’t really related to the original Xenoblade Chronicles game, hopefully if Monolith Soft continues with the same sort of design philosophy that made all of the other Xeno games so successful, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 would have a similar result.
While Monolith Soft likely won’t have a new Xenoblade Chronicles game to announce this year at E3, the thought of a new game sometime in the future should be good news for fans of the series.
