The PC gaming market is a huge one and has been evaluated to be worth around $29.5 Billion in 2018. This number has been predicted to increase to 31.3 Billion in 2019 and 33.5 Billion in 2020. Other than that the video game market is also predicted to increase over the next 2 years as well. The video game market is valued at $82.44 Billion for 2018 but this number will increase to $86.29 Billion in 2019 and this number will further increase to $90.07 Billion in 2020.
80% of the revenue in the video game market was from software sales, according to 2017 stats. There were 2.5 billion players worldwide last year. The statistics also show the impact of smartphones on gaming as more and more people are playing games on mobile devices. This is not shocking as everyone these days has smartphones and games can be downloaded and played at any given time. All you need to do is pull out your phone in your free time and play the game.
It is interesting to see that the PC segment has declined since 2015 and will continue to do so in the upcoming years but by not a big margin. Casual web games have declined as well since 2015 and that is not surprising keeping in mind how capable smartphones are now.
Looking into different platforms we see that the most number of games are being developed for PC followed by mobile. Consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One come in at third place. The Nintendo Switch comes in at 7th place which is kind of surprising. PC gaming market is a huge one and the industry is growing as we can see from these numbers.
