The fate of several characters have been left uncertain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) after they were erased from existence in Avengers: Infinity War. This includes T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) and while a Black Panther sequel has been guaranteed, fans would be surprised to know that there are other characters available to replace the king and protector of Wakanda.
Speaking with Screen Rant in a recent interview, producer Nate Moore pointed out that the Black Panther is not just a person but an important responsibility to be undertaken by those deemed worthy. This aspect removes any limitations when it comes to revisiting Wakanda because there are others who can become the Black Panther in his absence.
“One thing I like to tell Ryan is, the Black Panther is a mantle as much as it is a person, so we’re not restricted by anything, because the truth is, there’s a lot of different ways to go back to Wakanda and have a good time and continue to explore the themes that made the first film so resonant,” said Moore.
This perspective is really interesting because when it comes to replacing other characters, they cannot be imagined being played by someone else.
Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) is one such example where both the character and actor are considered the face of the MCU. There is no denying that he cannot play the same role forever but when he does retire, Marvel Studios has made it clear that no one else will deserve to wear the iron suit.
Black Panther is now available on Blu-ray, DVD and digital HD.
