There is very little known about phase four in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and Marvel Studios has promised to keep it that way until the present phase three has concluded next year with the untitled sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, presently dubbed Avengers 4.
That being said, there is nothing stopping the top brass from teasing a few particulars for what is to come.
Speaking with Screen Rant in a recent interview, Marvel Studios Producer Nate Moore confirmed that there will be a few characters parting ways before phase four has launched. This does not necessarily mean that they are being killed off in the big finale but since several actors have reached the end of their contracts, at least half of them are likely to be replaced with new characters.
“I think it’s an opportunity for us to bid a fond farewell to characters that we’ve come to know for a while,” said Moore, “but to also then introduce characters who are going to feel completely new and hopefully surprising to both our core fans and fans of our movies who aren’t as well-versed in publishing.”
“There are great ideas out there that we’ve talked about internally that I think and I hope will be surprising and refreshing to audiences while we still continue to explore characters we’ve come to love,” added Moore. “The new ones always feel really exciting because they can be anything. We’re at the point now where we’re blue-skying, what are the best stories to tell, and in that blue sky there are ideas that I think all of us get really excited to share with people.”
There are six untitled movies currently in the works for phase four, at least one of which is for the Eternals. There is also interest in bringing in Ms. Marvel for her cinematic debut. The next phase will be taking a cosmic direction, meaning that all related characters will be from deep space and the different corners of the universe.
The untitled Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel (2019) will be the first installment set after the events of Avengers 4. In other words, it will have the honor of kick-starting phase four for the MCU.
