Over the past few weeks, we got to find out that the Deus Ex Series is not over and there will be another title coming but, unfortunately, it won’t be coming soon. According to Eidos Montreal, Deus Ex is the brand of the studio even though a new title for it is not in their near future plans.
Speaking with PCGamesN, Eidos Montreal’s David Anfossi confirmed that the Deus Ex series is indeed not dead but they have too much on their plate right now so we might have to wait more before we get to see it happening. He states:
Deus Ex, of course, it’s the brand of the studio. We are all attached to this franchise, but we cannot do everything, you know? So we have Shadow of the Tomb Raider, we have this co-development with Crystal [Dynamics] on The Avengers, and we have a third game in development, so it’s enough at the moment for us.
The Thief franchise, however, isn’t that lucky as to be called important for Eidos Montreal. Anfossi made it clear that they have no plans for it by saying the following:
“So I should be clear with Thief, in the sense that for the moment there is no plans around that franchise. You know we have three productions and developments here. We are a big studio, but we have… we like to focus on things we do and do it correctly. We’ve proven it, I believe. So for Thief there is no plan.”
Apart from Shadow of the Tomb Raider and another Avengers project, the third title that Anfossi talked about is supposed to be another Marvel partnered title based on Guardians of the Galaxy.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider releases on PlayStation 4, PC and Xbox One on September 14 and reportedly, its development costs somewhere between $75 and $100 million.
