Based on the report by Variety, Capcom’s Monster Hunter World game will be having its big screen adaptation and the production will start in September. That said, this Monster Hunter Movie will be directed by, Paul W.S. Anderson, the director of the Resident Evil movies and what,s interesting, is that he will be working once again with Milla Jovovich.
The Monster Hunter Movie has a $60m budget and the production will start in the month of September, the shooting will take place in South Africa in and around Cape Town.
The production of the film will be backed by German film production and its distribution company will be Constantin Film. The role of Milla Jovovich is an unspecified role at the moment, perhaps we shall know more very soon.
The director Anderson first revealed his interest, in tackling a Monster Hunter Movie back in 2012. Years later in the year 2016, Anderson further added that the film will focus on an average American who is yanked into a parallel world filled with monsters.
Having said that, according to Anderson and the producing partner Jeremy Bolt the film is intended to kickstart a Monster Hunter Movie franchise. To be honest it does not seem impossible, provided the success Monster Hunter World game has had. Monster Hunter World has become Capcom’s best selling game ever.
Monster Hunter World released in January 2018 on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and in just a week it became a huge success. It was able to sell 5 million retail and digital copies worldwide in just one week. Assuming that the movie turns out to be as good as the game is, then there is no doubt that it will be a kickstart for a franchise.
That said, what are your thoughts on the Monster Hunter Movie? Do you think that it would be a success? Or the better question would be, do you think it will justify the game from which it is originating from? Let us know in the comments below.
