Ever since it was confirmed that Playstation was working on the Playstation 5, gamers have been wondering if we’ll be seeing the Playstation 5 at E3, especially considering that Microsoft previously unveiled the Xbox One X at the conference several years ago. Shawn Layden, however, says Sony will only be showing games.
Various hotly anticipated games like Days Gone, Death Stranding, Spiderman, Ghost of Tsushima, and The Last Of Us Part II will all be getting air time, likely alongside new games that will be announced this year. However, Layden did say that there wouldn’t be any new gaming hardware.
As the Chairman of Sony Interactive Entertainment Worldwide, Layden is probably in the best position to tell us whether or not we’ll be seeing the Playstation 5 at E3. And with the Playstation 4 still going very strong, and the Playstation 4 Pro having not even been on the market for two years at this point, it’s likely that we’ll still have a while to go before anything happens related to the Playstation 5.
Previous information about the console has talked about a generation divided into thirds: three years for the Playstation 4, three years for the Playstation 4 Pro, and three years after announcing the Playstation 5, to make up a complete generation, and nine years is a long time.
Of course, since it’s the biggest gaming event of the year, E3 is always full of surprises. Whether it’s remasters to some of the greatest games like Shadow of the Colossus, new games that no one expected to see, or sequels to some of the best games of previous years, E3 always has fierce competition between each developer to see which one “won” E3.
So, if you really want to know whether or not you’ll be seeing the Playstation 5 at E3, even if Shawn Layden told you no, you’ll have to wait until June 11 to see it for yourself.
