It was more than two years back when a new television series was revealed to be in development for the cult-favorite monster franchise, Tremors. The untitled project, after moving to Syfy a few months back, was unfortunately confirmed last month to have been cancelled.
It is not surprising to see television series being scrapped based on their pilot episodes. What is surprising here is that the pilot episode actually looks quite decent. You can judge that for yourself by watching the leaked trailer below.
Based on information on hand, the episodic adaptation takes place more than two decades after the events of the original Tremors (1990) and sees Kevin Bacon (Valentine McKee) returning to Perfection, Nevada. He is joined by P.J. Byrne (Big Little Lies), Hunter Parrish (Weeds), Ebonée Noel (Wrecked), Brandon Jay McLaren (Ransom) and Haley Tju (Bella and the Bulldogs) among others.
It does not take long for everyone to discover that the graboids are still alive, forcing the locals to look towards the only person in their midst who managed to defeat the creatures the first time.
There is hope that the leaked trailer manages to cause a few wildfires on the internet in order to convince a network out there. Keep your fingers crossed that Tremors finds a new home and soon.
This is not the first time that a television series has been considered for the monster franchise and later abandoned. Tremors 2: Aftershocks – The Lost Monsters (1996) never made it into production and Tremors: The Series (2003) ran for just a single season before being canned.
Elsewhere, Tremors: A Cold Day in Hell (2018) was released just last week as the sixth movie installment in the lineup. It features Michael Gross (Burt Gummer) from the original cast but has so far been met with disappointing reviews.
