HTC Vive Pro just came out recently and it still uses the equipment of the previous version but it is an update from the resolution point of view. Here we are going to look at how well the HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Rift and older HTC Vive run Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR. If you are looking to get a new headset and were wondering about the different options available then this will be a good basis for you to make the purchase decision.
What is the difference between the older Vive and the new Pro version? The new one features an AMOLED display that has a resolution of 2,880 x 1,600 and 615 PPI(2,160 x 1,200, 448 PPI on the older model). The tracking area has been increased to 33 x 33 feet(15 x 15 on the older model). There are different connectivity options as well. While the older one featured HDMI, USB 2.0, USB 3.0, the HTC Vive Pro comes with USB-C 3.0, DisplayPort 1.2, Bluetooth.
Do keep in mind that the Pro version costs $800 and that is only for the headset. The older model, on the other hand, costs $500 and that includes the sensor as well as the controllers. You can click here to pick up the original HTC Vive and you can click here to pick up the Pro version.
The Intel 8700K has been used for these benchmarks along with 16 GB of RAM which is standard for gaming. The following are the graphics cards that have been used for the test.
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060
AMD Radeon RX 580
Fallout 4 VR
From the benchmarks below, we can see that the Oculus Rift manages to run the game better than the HTC Vive. The HTC Vive Pro falls a bit short but that is because of the higher resolution of the headset. You can check out all the numbers below.
Skyrim VR gives us similar numbers when we compare the HTC Vive, the Vive Pro and the Oculus Rift. Comparing the Rift with the Vive we see that the Oculus Rift does deliver higher FPS and that the HTC Vive Pro does have the lowest FPS but that is due to the higher resolution at which the graphics are being rendered at. You can check out the exact numbers below.
Let us know what you think about these benchmarks, whether or not you are interested in checking out Skyrim VR and Fallout 4 VR and whether you are going to go with the HTC Vive Pro, Oculus Rift or the HTC Vive.
