You would think that Thanos was going to call it a day after wiping out half of all life in the universe with the Infinity Stones. The Mad Titan is apparently not done with his murdering rampage and will now be heading to Fortnite in an epic Avengers: Infinity War crossover event.
According to a new report from Entertainment Weekly earlier today, the chief antagonist from the Marvel Cinematic Universe is scheduled to be featured in a special “Infinity Gauntlet Limited Time Mashup” mode that will be much like the standard battle royale setup except for one major difference.
The overwhelmingly powerful Infinity Gauntlet will be placed randomly somewhere on the map in every match. The player who manages to find it during gameplay will automatically equip it to become Thanos himself. Yes, that means getting access to the Infinity Stones and wreaking havoc across the playing field.
The idea for the Avengers: Infinity War crossover event actually came from directors Anthony and Joe Russo. They appear to be fans of Fortnite and once Epic Games was approached, the developer had no reason to think otherwise.
“Over the past few months, while we were editing Infinity War, we’d take breaks to hop on and get in a few games,” said Joe Russo. “And then we started thinking, how cool would it be to have some kind of Avengers–Fortnite mashup? So we stalked [Epic Games creative director Donald Mustard].”
There is still no word on just how Thanos will play in Fortnite. Will players be able to use all of the Infinity Stones in six different powerful attacks, and will they be able to snap their fingers when the situation becomes a bit messy?
The new mode featuring Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet will be released for Fortnite tomorrow across all platforms in the form of a free update. We expect Epic Games to drop all of the necessary details then.
