Following two installments in nearly a decade, Paramount Pictures is said to be finally working on another cinematic entry called G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant that will reboot the Hasbro-owned military-action franchise.
According to a new report from That Hashtag Show earlier today, the third installment will see Marvin “Roadblock” Hinton taking command to assemble a brand new team of highly trained soldiers.
The lineup will include the likes of Dr. Adele Burkhart, Dania Janack, William “Wild Bill” Hardy, Gabriel “Barbecue” Kelly, Carl “Doc” Greer, Shana “Scarlett” O’Hara, Admiral Everett “Keel-Haul” Colby, General Flagg, Snake Eyes, and others.
Their purpose will be to stop Tomax and Xamot Paoli from launching a dark matter weapon that can instantly turn targets into ash.
The details currently available suggest that the twins will be acting on their own and the setting may be before Cobra became a worldwide terrorist organization. Since Cobra Commander is pegged to make a cameo, the ruthless leader bent on ruling the world may just appear at the end to tease things to come for the next installment.
G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant has been in development for years now and has had several different iterations, all trashed by Paramount Pictures except for the latest one. The studio is interested in bringing back Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson to reprise the role of Roadblock but the wrestler-turned-actor is yet to take up the offer.
G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilant has been slated for a release in theaters on March 27, 2020. This would mean that the project should enter production by next year.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) and G.I. Joe: Retaliation (2013) are the only two installments released in the franchise to date. They have more or less disappointed fans of the original comic books and animated television series. Hopefully, the intended reboot will fix that.
