Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery Duels

Duels in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is a game of reads and reactions. Being based more on the idea of luck than actual skill, you will have to analyze, guess, and respond the way you see fit. That is not to say, you cannot get good at it if your luck runs out. You can still get acquainted with some of the mechanics that go into it.

There are three types of attacks can be performed in a duel i.e. Aggressive, Defensive, and Sneaky.

You can take it as a slightly more strategic game of rock, paper, and scissors. The opponent’s attack will be unbeknownst to you, only the results matter. A tie indicates both of you chose the same type of attack. A win will mean your attack overpowered the opponent spells. However, it is not all that easy.

Aggressive Attacks
These deal the most amount of damage. They have the ability to break Sneaky spell attacks. However, these will be rendered useless with Defensive Attacks since defensive spells can break aggressive ones.

Defensive Attacks
Performing this type of attack, you do not deal as high of a damage as Aggressive Attacks. However, you will be able to recover your character’s health upon performing the attack. However, do note that a Sneaky Spell will break this Defensive Attack making you vulnerable and unable to regenerate health.

Sneaky Attacks
With this kind of move, you will be able to break the Defensive Attack of the enemy. This will lead you to follow up with other attacks. However, if the opponent used an Aggressive Attack, your sneaky attack will lose its effect.

In the end, watch how your opponent plays. Predict on what you have already observed. If he has been using Defensive Attacks for the last couple of rounds, Sneaky Attack is a safe bet. If he were going aggressive in every session, maybe a Defensive Spell would work better. Overall, observation and prediction are keys here.
