Battletech Mechwarriors Guide – Abilities, Pilots, Skills, What To Build (Tips And Tricks)

MechWarriors are pretty much going to define the outcome of your battles in Battletech. They are extremely complex and have a lot more to them than meets the eye. For that reason, this Battletech MechWarriors Guide will assist you in understanding what they are.

Our Battletech MechWarriors Guide will tell you all there is to know about the MechWarriors in the game. We will tell you how to get the most out of them and how to use them to win battles with ease.

Battletech MechWarriors

Remember that your MechWarriors can actually die. Your character may be immortal, but incapacitated MechWarriors will probably die. If the head of your MechWarriors is destroyed, it will certainly die.

Each MechWarrior has x2 Level 5 abilities and a Level 8 ability. However, you can level up all of the skills as you normally would. There is also no level cap so you can get all of the skills to Level 10.

MechWarriors Tips and Tricks

Here are some useful tips and tricks for your MechWarriors in Battletech. Let us go ahead and take a look at how to get the most out of your MechWarriors during battle.

Abilities

Your Multi Target ability is great as it allows you target more than x1 enemy at once. It can be used to finish off enemies or to strip evasion points from targets.

Do not use it on Mechs that have short-range weapons or only one long-range weapon since this ability works best with a long-ranged weapon.

Your breaching shot will completely negate the cover that your enemies have and deal damage to them. It can be used for finishing enemies that are hiding behind cover.

It can also be combined with multi-target to work really well. Avoid this on mechs that have weak weapons in their arsenal and on mechs that only utilize short-range weapons.

Pilots

Pilots can be of great help as they can help the melee fighting capabilities of your MechWarrior. There are x2 abilities that are particularly useful. Evasive movement is great for Light Mechs and can be good for most mechs as it gives you an extra evasion point when moving.

Ace Pilot is also great as it can be used for withdrawal and flexibility due to the fact that you will be able to shoot before you have moved. This can be used for any mech and there is probably no mech that this ability is not well suited for.

Skills

There are four different types of skills that can affect your mechs. Two of them are extremely important and have their abilities mentioned above. Let us go ahead and take a look at all of the skills.

Gunnery is a skill that is useful or all Mechs and it is good to have points in it as it will be used in pretty much everything. Piloting is another skill that is quite good for the lighter mechs as it will allow them to be better at melee. Getting Level 4 on all pilots is probably a good thing to do.

Guts are good for survivability and is good for the mechs who have to soak up a bit of the damage so that other mechs can deal it. Tactics are good for LRMs and shot calling. It is not that important for you to invest points in this early on but towards the mid and the late game, it is probably best for you to have some points here.

What to Build

  • For a Recon or a Scout, it is best to put points into Piloting and Tactics.
  • If you are planning to play as a lurker or a flanker, then it is best to go for Gunnery and Piloting.
  • If you are planning to be a Sharpshooter, then go for Gunnery and Tactics for the damage and then, well, tactics.
  • For a Gladiator who just goes in, it is best to go for Guts and Gunnery so that you can take a hit and deal damage at the same time.
  • Lastly, you could be a vanguard towards the mid or the late game and go for Guts and Tactics as it will allow you to be an absolute monster towards the later stages of the game.

Miscellaneous Tips and Tricks

Here are some other smaller tips and tricks that would be useful for you when in the game.

  • Melee is quite good as it is not countered by the AI.
  • Remember to never use both SRM and LRM for your mech.
  • If your mechs are a more supportive type, then it is best to go for the tactics skill.
  • Lighter Mechs will always be better for evasion points due to their movement speed.
  • Remember to have your finances set to generous early on so that you can boost morale.
  • LRM15 is the most balanced LRM whereas LRM10 is the worst and should be avoided.
  • Even brawlers can benefit from the occasional long-range attack, so have a long range weapon on you.
