Avengers: Infinity War was always expected to set one box office record after another following the highly anticipated premiere this weekend. The culmination of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) for the past ten years will not be denied a place in history, and here is every single milestone achieved to date.
Avengers: Infinity War earned more than $25.2 million in the domestic box office on Monday, making it the best performance by any movie released on the particular day and second-best in the MCU.
To begin with, the latest movie from Marvel Studios beat Star Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) with $250 million for the biggest domestic opening of all time. The box office record triumphed for not just the entire weekend but also independently for the biggest Saturday and Sunday with $83 million and $61 million respectively.
In addition, Avengers: Infinity War exceeded expectations by beating The Fate of the Furious (2017) with $541.9 million for the biggest international opening as well. What makes this particular box office record impressive is that the movie does not premiere in China until next week.
Elsewhere, Avengers: Infinity War also marked the fastest earnings to reach $150 million, $200 million, and $250 million. The first threshold was reached in just two days, while the next two were achieved in three days.
Avengers: Infinity War is now the third comic book adaptation to have crossed $200 million in their opening weekends. The ones to do before were The Avengers (2012) with $207.4 million and Black Panther (2018) with $202 million. The movie is also the third biggest opener from Disney.
This article will be updated with time as more records and milestones are set.
