Thanos and his Black Order were always prepared to go to any length to obtain all of the Infinity Stones and so they did in Avengers: Infinity War by leaving behind a trail of destruction and suffering. However, the brutal assault for one particular Infinity Stone was never shown to the audience.
Take heed that there are major spoilers ahead and you have been warned to turn back right now or else compromise your screening experience.
The Power Stone was first introduced in Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and later handed over to the intergalactic military and police force called Nova Corps on Xandar, capital of the Nova Empire in the Andromeda Galaxy, for safekeeping.
Avengers: Infinity War opens up with Thanos already having the Power Stone in his possession, revealing shortly after that the Mad Titan blew up Xandar about a week prior. So why was this scene missing from the movie?
Speaking at an Iowa High School (via Reddit) recently, co-director Joe Russo explained that the assault on Xandar had to be cut out to keep the run-time under three hours and avoid repitition.
He did mention that the Nova Corps had no fighting chance and the defense systems of Xandar were completely ineffective against Thanos. Even without any Infinity Stones, the Mad Titan is not someone to be taken lightly.
Avengers: Infinity War is now running in theaters worldwide and will open in China on May 11. The untitled sequel, presently dubbed Avengers 4, is slated to premiere on May 3, 2019.
