Shadow of the Tomb Raider sees Lara transform into the true Tomb Raider she was always destined to be. In fact, according to senior Brand Director, Rich Briggs, her skill set and ability to blend with her surroundings will be unparallel.
Speaking at the Tribeca panel, Briggs stated that Lara will become one with the jungle this time around. She is “mastering” the jungle not trying to survive it the way we saw in 2013’s Tomb Raider game. To complement this aspect of her character, developers have introduced new tools and skill sets.
If you look at Tomb Raider’s jungle setting, Lara was not trying to become one with it, she was just trying to survive it. Now she is mastering the jungle, so now we’ve built a lot more elements into it that actually have a significant gameplay impact.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the final act of Lara’s origin story that ends with her becoming a Tomb Raider. According to lead writer, Jill Murray, in many cases we may feel like Lara is the enemy. She has an obsessive personality and feels less remorse everytime she kills. Her actions are driving a rift between her and her friends who are trying to keep her darkness at bay. Once the story unfolds we will know what she would become by the end of it all.
Shadow of the Tomb Raider is releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. An official gameplay reveal is set for E3 2018. No gameplay footage will be shown before the event.
